The Delta School Celebrates its 60th Anniversary in 2018
In the mid 1950’s, a young mother of a child with social, emotional and learning disabilities, disheartened with the available education programs, met with three prominent professionals in the field of education. From that contact grew what is today the Delta School.
For 60 years, the program has provided not only excellence in education, but has been dedicated to what is now known as addressing the needs of the “whole child.”
Although the special education curriculum has evolved over 60 years, the original concept of teaching the whole child in a welcoming environment remains the principal tenant of the Delta School program.
The Delta School is proud to announce the construction of its newest classroom building which will open its doors at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. The new education building will house a life skills center for students in grades 9-12, a state-of-the-art computer learning center, featuring the latest educational technology, as well as additional classrooms. The expanded instructional space will enable the Delta School to fulfill its core mission of producing successful, independent adults and life-long learning.
Delta School’s Extended School Year begins on July 2, 2018. This eight week program runs Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In order to prevent educational regression, a specially designed instructional program is implemented. Student and community activities are also organized to compliment the academic learning experience.
